A 2D echo test involves the doctor injecting a dye into the patient's body through his veins. Further, electrodes are attached at different points on his/her body. A transducer, a microphone like device is used for taking pictures of muscles and nerve structures present near heart. Pictures thus taken are transferred to a computer for further analysis and medications.
Conditions like Atrial Septal Defect (ASD)and Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) which are characterized by holes in the atrium and ventricles are visible through a 2D echo test. Cardiac inflammation, irregular heart beats, congenital heart defects are also detected through a 2D echo test. Tumors and blood clots present in cardiac region are possible to get investigated with help of a 2D echo.
This test does not require any type of fasting and it does not lead to any major complications too. It also does not involve use of radiations so it is harmless.
