Diabetes is considered one of the most deadliest diseases. Number of people affected by diabetes is increasing day-by-day. Changes in dietary habits, lack of exercise, addictions such as alcohol and smoking have all resulted in lifestyle diseases, diabetes being one of them. Consumption of too much of sweetened foods and canned juices increase chances of diabetes.

HbA1c test is a type of blood test. Sample of blood is collected and sent to laboratory for analysis. The test shows current level of glucose in blood and average blood glucose level of last three months. The test has to be repeated after gap of 3-4 months since blood glucose level keeps on fluctuating. Also, average life span of red blood cells is 3 months. Hence, levels of glycated hemoglobin that was formed in blood keeps on varying.

If the outcome of HbA1c test result is below 42 mmol/mol, then it is considered normal. If the report shows blood glucose level in the range of 42-47 mmol/mol, then patient is in pre-diabetes state. Results above 48 mmol/mol, confirm patient is suffering from diabetes.

To reduce risk of diabetes, one should take proper care of their diet. Regular exercise also helps in curbing diabetes. Intake of sweets should be in limit.
