Triple Marker Test Cost in Mumbai
The Triple marker test is important for detection of genetic and birth abnormalities. Three important substances present in the placenta, viz. Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), Human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) and Estriol can be determined by the this test. Abnormalities present in the fetus can also be detected. Determination of important components in the placenta using Triple Marker:
- Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP): Alpha-fetoprotein is formed by fetus which is detected by the Triple marker test. Neural tube defects can be confirmed by presence of high levels of Alpha-fetoprotein.
- Human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG): Placenta forms a hormone called Human chorionic gonadotropin. HCG in low level shows problems during pregnancy, such as multiple pregnancy (two or more children) and miscarriage. Triple Marker test aids in finding levels of HCG.
- Estriol: Estrogen is formed from both placenta and fetus. Presence of Estriol in low levels shows chances of having a baby with Down's syndrome. In cases where low AFP and high HGC levels are linked with low Estriol levels, chances of birth defects are more. This is where Triple Marker test comes into picture.
Following abnormalities can be present in the developing fetus if abnormal levels of three markers in the triple marker test, viz. Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), Human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) are observed.
- Improper pregnancy timeline
- Presence of twins or triplets
- Down's syndrome
- Neural tube defects
- Edward's syndrome
